NWFA promotes the following martial arts: Muay Thai, Kickboxing, MMA/Mixed Martial Arts,  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kali, Eskrima, Arnis, Jeet Kune Do,Western Boxing, Lameco Eskrima, Tai Chi, Bagua, Hsing-I, Yichaun and Qigong in Portland, OR.

The Arts at NWFA


Muay Thai:

The root of kickboxing, Muay Thai or Thai boxing, is a highly effective form of self defense and an integral piece of an MMA fighters training.  Our instructors are certified under the Thai Boxing Association.  More about training in Muay Thai.


Grappling:

Drawing primarily from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as well as Judo, Dumag & Wrestling, these classes focus on ground fighting.  Grappling is another key piece in the MMA repetoire.  Those well trained in grappling are often able to counteract a significant size advantage in an opponent.  We offer classes under black belt instruction.   More about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. 


Jeet Kune Do:
Bruce Lee's concepts drawn from the lineage of Maestro Ted LucayLucay, Guro Dan Inosanto, and Punong Guro Leonard Trigg.  Empty hand techniques drawn from Chinese Boxing, Wing Chung, Silat, Panatukan, Jun Fan and more.  JKD offers street applicable self defense. More about JKD training


Filipino Arts - Kali, Eskrima, Arnis:
Multiple stick, knife and empty hand concepts to develop weapon awareness and nullification. Taught in the lineage of Punong Guro Edgar G. Sulite, Guro Dan Inosanto, Maestro Ted LucayLucay, and Punong Guro Leonard Trigg. More about eskrima classes


Tai Chi:
Empty hand and weapon forms trained in to achieve the unification of body and mind.  Tai Chi is an art with many aspects.  Members train to improve their fitness and health, enhance their energy and vitality, or to reduce stress and develop a clear mind.  More about the uses of Tai Chi


Qigong:

We offer a broad qigong curriculum with forms and information focusing on the physical, philosphical, mental, energetic and spiritual aspects of the art.  We encourage our members to enhance the form practice by utilizing Dan Tien conditioning exercises and breathing patterns to invigorate the body and clear the mind.  More information on training in qigong

Youth Martial Arts -  Muay Thai, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu

The Youth Power program at NWFA utilizes Muay Thai, Western Boxing, Jeet Kune Do and Jiu Jitsu to develop fitness, health and self defense skills in a youth.  Our program focuses on the whole person; emphasizing respect, self-discipline and character builiding via the martial arts.  More about our kids martial arts program

Every individual who trains with us is encouraged to develop toward their own personal goals and potential.  Everyone has a unique reason for training with us.  Some of those include:  having a good time; getting a good workout; learning practical self defense; training to compete; developing a meditative practice; rehabilitation from injury; enhancing health; and working towards certification as an instructor.


NWFA provides a welcoming atmosphere where everyone is treated with respect, regardless of skill level.
